On the border of Raincy, you can still see old quarries where gypsum was extracted since the 17th century. The exploitation of fine gypsum, known as “de Paris”, was the main Gabonese industry until the 1950s. The old quarries of Mussat closed in 1965.
At the end of the 19th century, in some abandoned quarries, mushrooms were already being cultivated in Paris.
The old gypsum quarries in Gagny were replaced by a large shopping center project, itself replaced by the starwood, a tree plantation.
